The Panamonte Inn and Spa in Boquete: the true definition of a Country Inn
The Panamonte Inn and Spa is located in Boquete in the Chiriqui Province of Panama, a fascinating mountain city with noticeably cooler weather than any other location I visited in the country. The hotel is historic, dating back to 1914 and the completion of the Panama Canal, and is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
It’s guestbook is peppered with visits from famous diplomats, celebrities, and socialites, and for good reason. The newly renovated rooms offer space, comfort, flat screen TV’s, and very nice bathrooms and the suites offer even more!
The best part is the lush tropical garden that the rooms surround, with many types of fauna, as well was charming tables and archways.
The resturaunt and lounge have earned their own notoriety, with world class cuisine and an experienced chef, Charlie Collins. Behind the bar in a section of couches and chairs lies a fireplace (that is actually used on the shockingly cool Boquete nights), and a great meeting place for inn guests and restuarant goers alike.
The service and staff are wonderfully helpful with any inquiries you may have pertaining to entertainment, coffee tours, world class River Rafting in the Chiriqui Province of Panama, and countless other outdoor activities. I took a day to visit the Caldera Hot Springs, less than an hour away and closer to the legendary Baru Volcano that fascinated me. The Baru Volcano is the highest point of Panama and it is a dormant volcano that you can go for a day hike or overnight camping trip.
Coffee Tasting Tours in Boquete are also very interesting trips for coffee drinkers and nature lovers, as they are located in the mountains and offer views of rainforest vegetation, wildlife, and of course an inside look into the growing and production of arguably the finest coffees in the world is what is rapidly becoming the “Napa Valley of Coffee”.
As for the city of Boquete, I was more than pleasantly surprised. There is an interesting blend of locals, ex-patriots from all over the world, and a big backpacking scene. People of all ages can find things to do and new friends around every corner. Boquete has a reputation worldwide as a retirement destination in Panama. When I went to town and mentioned which hotel I was visiting, people were obviously very impressed, which lead me to believe that the Panamonte Inn and Spa is an important member of its’ community.
Local people and Spanish explorers have known this area for quite a long time, but the city of Boquete has only existed since 1911. Three years after this town was created the Panamonte started offering premier lodging to people from all over the world, and this year it celebrated its’ 95th anniversary. With the luxurious accommodations and exquisite dining, it’s no wonder the Panamonte Inn and Spa has been so well known for so long. I suggest you introduce yourself to Boquete, and let the Panamonte be your host.
